In Queens, a 3.5-mile stretch of long-abandoned rail line is packed with potential. Trust for Public Land is working with Friends of the QueensWay, community members, and the City and State of New York to create the QueensWay, a linear park that would create a safe north-south connection through the city’s second-most-populous borough. The trail will connect communities and provide much needed public green space, recreation areas, opportunities for safe alternative commuting, and community spaces to celebrate the cultural diversity of Queens. This guided tour provides an overview of the park and the many benefits it would provide for Queens residents.

Most of the tour takes place on NYC sidewalks, which can be narrow at times. The ravine section in Forest Park will have rail ties, rail bed, and debris. It will be hard for anyone with a wheelchair, bicycle, or baby carriage to maneuver the brief walk on the rail bed.

This tour consists of an approximately 3 mile walk. The end point of this tour will be different from the starting point. The nearest address for our end point will be the Stop & Shop at 8989 Union Turnpike, Glendale, NY 11385.
