Discover a hidden historic gem nestled on the east side of Washington Heights and just north of Sugar Hill. Public Programs and Visitor Services Manager Danielle Gaita will lead visitors through the Morris-Jumel Mansion, the oldest residence still standing in Manhattan. Built in 1765, it has been home to a loyalist family, George Washington and the Continental Army, the British Army, and the Hessian Army, as well as Eliza Jumel, with her first husband Stephen, and her second, Aaron Burr. Lin-Manuel Miranda communed with Burr’s spirit in the Mansion to compose music for his legendary hit, Hamilton. The tour will share all the many layers of history that this house has been witness to.
