2023 marks three important milestones in the life of the historic Church of the Transfiguration (Episcopal). The church itself, also known as “The Little Church Around the Corner” is celebrating its 175th anniversary of providing a beautiful, safe, and welcoming space to visitors from all denominations and from around the world, with services in English, Spanish, and Korean. The Episcopal Actors’ Guild, which is based at the Little Church, is celebrating its 100th anniversary of supporting the arts and artists in New York City. Additionally, Houghton Hall Arts Community is celebrating its opening year as a low-cost rehearsal, meeting, and teaching space for the performing arts. Tours and performances will be held throughout the weekend. No reservations are required. **Saturday, October 21 – 10am – 4pm** – 10:15am – Tour of the History, Art, and Architecture of the Church and an optional sneak peek at the new Houghton Hall Arts Community – 11am – Organ Concert by Dr. Claudia Dumschat, Director of Music, performing some best-loved organ pieces on the magnificent Fisk organ – 11:30am – 3:00pm – Open house at Houghton Hall Arts Community, a new 17,000-square-foot rehearsal and teaching space for the performing arts – 12:15 pm – Tour of the History, Art, and Architecture of the Church and an optional sneak peek at the new Houghton Hall Arts Community – 1:15pm – 4pm – Theatre Archives: View a unique display of historic materials and theatre memorabilia from the Episcopal Actors’ Guild archives, rarely open to the public! Learn how the Church of the Transfiguration became “The Little Church Around the Corner” and about the many famous actors associated with the church and the guild. – 2:15pm – Tour of the History, Art, and Architecture of the Church and an optional sneak peek at the new Houghton Hall Arts Community – 3pm – Piano Concert by world-renowned artist Matei Varga, who will perform a program of Beethoven sonatas and other beloved pieces on a Bosendorfer piano once owned by William F. Buckley. **Sunday, October 22 – 11am – 4pm** – 12:45pm – Tour in Spanish of the History, Art, and Architecture of the Church – 1:15pm – Tour of the Church with special emphasis on its history with the theatre community and famous actors, plus a tour of Houghton Hall Arts Community – 2pm – “Celebration in Song: 100 Years of Broadway” celebrating the centennial of the Episcopal Actors’ Guild, with beloved show tunes and stories from EAG members, Broadway actors, and a sing-along with the audience, too!
