OHNY Stacks

“The city, however, does not tell its past, but contains it like the lines of a hand, written in the corners of the streets, the gratings of the windows, the banisters of the steps, the antennae of the lightning rods, the poles of the flags, every segment marked in turn with scratches, indentations, scrolls.” – Italo Calvino, Invisible Cities

Open House New York is thrilled to launch OHNY Stacks, a series of book talks, hosted live on Zoom, exploring the unknown, the unseen, and the unnoticed.

We invite you to join us throughout the fall and winter as we shine a light on the impact of some of the historical staples of American life and how they have shaped our cities and continue to affect inhabitants.

From the importance of the automobile through the lens of the Black experience, to understanding why we don’t see fire escapes on new buildings, to the role that main streets play in the health and vibrancy of cities, these conversations, hosted by OHNY Interim Co-Executive Director Saundra Thomas, will offer a refreshing, frank, and often humorous guide to what lives and lies beneath what’s often taken for granted.
