Meet Alba Cruz, Volunteer Manager

Bartow-Pell Mansion (The Carriage House)

Alba Cruz joined Open House New York as Volunteer Manager in August 2022 after years of volunteering for the organization. She comes to OHNY from the Private Business sector, most recently as a Logistics & Social Media Coordinator. Outside of OHNY you can find her going to concerts, admiring art in any form, reading a book while sipping coffee. Above all, she loves quality time with the people she loves and a good laugh.

I’ve been an Open House New Yorker since

I’v been a volunteer since 2015. I did a google search for fun things to do in NYC involving art. I wanted to see art outside of museums and gallery walls.

I’m an Open House New Yorker because…

I find art in every corner. NYC is art, from a rock in the park, the people that you meet, to the history of a brick. OHNY fills every box of a NYC lover.

What is your favorite part about volunteering for OHNY Weekend?

The incredibly diverse group of people you meet.

If you could “unlock” any place in NYC what would it be?

Bartow-Pell Mansion.  I have lived in NYC for decades now and I didn’t know such a location existed, let alone the history of it.

What excites you about your expanded role as Volunteer Manager for this year’s OHNY Weekend?

I love behind-the-scenes work and I have completed projects of similar scale, so being able to work with an organization that I already enjoy so much felt like a natural progression.
