A collaboration between development firm Tankhouse and architecture firm SO-IL, Nine Chapel is a new Downtown Brooklyn condominium reinventing outdoor space for vertical living. Draped in an undulating, shimmering skin of perforated lightweight metal, the building’s eye-catching exterior absorbs light and stands out, creating privacy for indoor-outdoor spaces while allowing transparency for vast light and views. This focal point in a nook of Brooklyn brings new prominence to the historic site next door that gives Chapel Street its name, the 1903 Cathedral Basilica of St. James. Tankhouse and SO-IL have made outdoor space central to the design of Nine Chapel. Inventive, substantial outdoor spaces expand the 27 homes in unique ways, blurring the lines between indoor and outdoor living. Unlike any other new tower, Nine Chapel invites residents to arrive home via wide open-air terraces that act like front porches, creating an environment that’s more house than high-rise. Nine Chapel also offers amenities designed to foster community and socialization, and prioritizes sustainability by infusing residents’ lives with a connection to nature and using energy-efficient electric appliances in all homes.
