Audrey Lu joined Open House New York as a Bloomberg Arts Intern in July 2025. She is currently a rising senior at The Bronx High School of Science. During her internship with OHNY, she is looking forward to learning how the city works on an interior level. She is interested in drawing, completing DIY sets, and documenting moments of her life through photography and writing.

What are you excited about during your internship with Open House New York?

As a New Yorker, I’m excited to explore new and hidden places around New York City. I discovered Open House New York through the OHNY Weekend festival, which opens up many sites that are typically closed to the public. I am looking forward to visiting a few of these sites. I believe that this internship will also be a great opportunity to learn about the stories behind the buildings that we pass every day, and the different styles of architecture.

What’s your favorite neighborhood or place in New York?

My favorite place in New York is the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Met has always had a special place in my heart. The first time I went to the Met was when I was 5, so I had a lot of great memories there. Despite the fact that I have visited the museum several times in the past, I constantly find myself going back to look at the new exhibits.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

In five years, I see myself having finished college and starting a new chapter in my life. I hope that I will still live in the city. I also hope to travel to different places. One of my goals in life is to travel the world, so I hope that I will be able to travel to places I’ve never been, such as Paris and Japan. I enjoy trying different cuisines, so I am excited to go to the bakeries in Paris and the ramen shops in Japan.

If you could ‘unlock’ any building in New York, what would it be?

If I could ‘unlock’ any building, it would be the Majestic Theatre. I watched the Phantom of the Opera years ago, so it would be interesting to know about the interior of the theater. I would love to know more about what goes on behind-the-scenes during plays.

Bloomberg Arts Internship

The Bloomberg Arts Internship (BAI) program offers rising public school seniors summer internships at cultural non-profits to provide skills and experience. Since 2012, the program has offered New York City students (at participating CTE high schools) paid opportunities to try out arts careers; hone workplace, career, and communication skills; and sharpen their writing. Bloomberg Arts Internship is sponsored by Bloomberg Philanthropies.

OHNY’s partnership with the BAI Studio Institute is part of our program Next Gen NYC, an initiative exploring the power of place for the next generation of young urbanists and New Yorkers.
