Open House New York to receive $25,000 Award from the National Endowment for the Arts

New York, NY — Open House New York (OHNY) is pleased to announce it has been approved by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) for a Grants for Arts Projects award of $25,000. This grant will support Water Works, a year-long program series investigating New York City’s water infrastructure and systems. The NEA will award 1,127 Grants for Arts Projects awards nationwide totaling more than $31.8 million as part of the recent announcement of fiscal year 2025 grants.
“The NEA is proud to continue our nearly 60 years of supporting the efforts of organizations and artists that help to shape our country’s vibrant arts sector and communities of all types across our nation,” said NEA Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD. “It is inspiring to see the wide range of creative projects taking place, including Open House New York’s Water Works.”
“New York is surrounded by water, but It’s easy to take this vital natural resource for granted until there’s too much of it—or not enough,” said OHNY executive director Kristin LaBuz. “With generous support from the NEA, the new programming will help New Yorkers understand how our city works, from the reservoirs Upstate to the Port of Bayonne, and everything in between.”
Over the next year, OHNY will partner with City agencies, design leaders, and community organizations to explore the city’s water infrastructure. Public programs will include tours, presentations, community activations, and curated series during the citywide OHNY Weekend festival (October 17-19).
Water Works is the eighth installment of OHNY’s ongoing Urban System programming, a themed series investigating the forces that shape the city. Previous series have explored transportation, waste management, and local manufacturing.
