Join Open House New York and NYC Department of Design and Construction for a preview of the Shirley Chisholm Recreation Center before it opens to the public and hear about the impact of capital construction reforms with DDC, Consigli, and Studio Gang.
Set to open this fall, the project is among the first to be built as part of DDC’s Design-Build pilot program. First authorized by New York State for public agencies in 2018, design-build allowed DDC to complete the recreation center at least two years faster than with traditional design-bid-build, thanks to phased design and construction by an integrated, collaborative design and construction team.
The center in East Flatbush is the first new recreation center built by the city in eight years. Designed by Studio Gang, with construction led by Consigli, the facility will offer a gymnasium, indoor swimming pool, walking track, teaching kitchen, and a state-of-the-art media lab and business center, creating a community hub with new resources for learning, public health, and civic engagement.
