Take a first look at the newly-completed L10 Arts & Cultural Center in Downtown Brooklyn with OHNY, Andrea Steele Architecture, and L10 cultural partners 651 ARTS, Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), Brooklyn Public Library, and the Museum of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts (MoCADA).
Nearly a decade in the making, L10 is a multidisciplinary arts hub that gives New Yorkers of all ages and abilities a new space to learn, create, and connect. The galleries, theaters, and public spaces at L10 will provide the four iconic cultural organizations it houses with the ability to expand their programming and support a broader community of artists. Future public programs at L10 will include theater, dance, music, film, visual arts, talks with artists and curators, radio, and cultural food residencies.
This Open House offers visitors an opportunity to go behind the scenes at this brand-new cultural hub and get a preview of the ambitious and diverse programs to come:
Tour the state of the art black box theater and rehearsal studios at 651 ARTS, the first permanent home for this long-running organization showcasing dance, music, theater, and other contemporary performing arts from the African diaspora
See displays of archival materials and screenings of vintage performance excerpts from the BAM Hamm Archives at BAM KBH before it opens to the public
Peruse the specially curated art book collection at the first branch of Brooklyn Public Library dedicated to arts and culture, and watch artist Katie Merz creating new work commissioned for the Library
Dance to live DJs (instruction provided!) and try bites from Taste of the Diaspora in MoCADA’s expanded gallery space and cafe
Get an inside look at the building’s design and construction with the team from Andrea Steele Architecture and SITU Fabrication
Full program schedule to be announced. Special programs will take place throughout the event, some in capacity-limited spaces, and are first-come, first-serve.
