Join MTA NYCT on a tour of the Livonia Maintenance Shop and Yard, home of the 3 Line, and learn about shop operations, subway car maintenance, parts inventory, and storage, and see safety protocols in action. Get an inside look at how subway cars are inspected, cleaned, and repaired to ensure safe and efficient operation on the NYC subway system. See how workers maintain and repair various mechanical components of subway cars, including the wheels, brakes, and electrical systems on the R62 and R62A contracts. Learn about the shop’s extensive parts inventory, showcasing how spare parts are stored and managed for quick access by the maintenance crew. See demonstrations or discussions of the various safety protocols and procedures that workers follow to prevent accidents and ensure the well-being of both the staff and the public.
Ticket holders must submit a photocopy of their passport or state-issued ID to [email protected] for a background check by Wednesday, 10/9 at 12 pm. Access to this tour is contingent upon a timely submission of IDs and passing a background check. Admission is not guaranteed.
No children are allowed. Visitors must be 18 or older to join the tour. No flip-flops or shorts. Everyone must be able to comply with and understand a short pre-tour safety brief in English.
Livonia Maintenance Shop has very limited accessibility. The shop is in an industrial area, and a safety briefing must be conducted before the tour. There is no elevator in the facility, and it is recommended that people who cannot climb stairs not attend.
