Meet Fiona Torres, OHNY Volunteer
I’ve been an Open House New York since
I saw an ad about volunteering back in 2006 but unfortunately, I missed the deadline, However, I made sure the following year I would get involved. The first place that I volunteered was at the Masonic Hall.
What’s your favorite OHNY memory?
My favorite memory is when I went to the Atlantic Avenue/Cobble Hill Tunnel. Once as a visitor (2009), & another time as a volunteer (2010).
What’s a hidden gem you’ve found through OHNY?
The Firehouse on Jay Street, Brooklyn
What Borough/neighborhood would you like to explore more?
I would love to see the inside of the Flatiron building or explore Midtown.
Share a memory of a Weekend location that surpassed your expectations.
When I was the district coordinator for the West Village, I got to see the New School building before it was open to the public, the Jefferson Library, and many other sites too.
Do you have any tips you’d like to share with prospective volunteers?
Have lots of patience, bring a phone charger, pen, scissors, tape & be ready to learn/see something new.
