Waterfront Workings: Renewable Infrastructure for a Resilient City

From wind farms to energy storage, explore renewable infrastructure investments along our city’s working waterfront that address climate change.

The South Brooklyn coastline, stretching from DUMBO to Sunset Park, is home to an array of critical facilities needed for the day-to-day functioning of our city. Electrical systems, recycling facilities, a cruise ship terminal, and New York’s last “car float” rail yard are among the many landmarks that line this working port. However, this landscape is not simply a vestige of our city’s industrial past. It is evolving as technological developments provide transformative opportunities to address the impacts, and in some cases mitigate, climate change. Wind farms, wastewater management and energy storage facilities are remaking the South Brooklyn waterfront, and bringing environmental justice to communities long threatened by pollution and industrial waste.

In this tour, participants will learn about how our city is creating a cleaner, and more just city by transforming our working waterfront. Speakers include Max Taffet, Senior Vice President of Offshore Wind+PortNYC Planning at New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC) Sudhir Puthran, Assistant Vice President of Cruise and Maritime Development at EDC, among others soon to be announced.
