5:30PM - 7:30PM
Hailed as a “post-modern gem,” “falling just on the right side of tacky,” and “surreal,” the Kevin Roche-designed atrium at 60 Wall Street, built in 1989, ranks as one of the most distinctive publicly owned private spaces (POPS) in the city.
But we could be losing it.
Despite valiant preservation advocacy efforts to-date, the space was approved for demolition as the developers look to replace the beloved Egyptian Revival aesthetic with a more modern design to attract new tenants to the now-empty skyscraper.
With the threat of removal looming, Open House New York, the Design Trust for Public Space, and The Municipal Art Society of New York invite you to join us in kicking off the new year, discussing the future of post-modern heritage, and tipping our hats to this special space.
This event is restricted to Metropolitan members only. RSVP’s required to [email protected]. Not a Metropolitan Member? join Metropolitan at $10/month.
