5:30PM - 7:30PM
Open House New York members are invited to a behind-the-scenes tour of the recently restored Brooklyn Paramount Theater with Arcadis and Live Nation.
Hear from renovation architects Arcadis about the restoration process and the construction of new spaces inspired by the original 1920s design documents, including a reimagined ticket lobby, entrance hall, and VIP lounge. The tour will also go backstage with the Live Nation theater team to see how the state-of-the-art sound and lighting design work within the historic space to provide an ideal stage for all types of contemporary musical performances.
Built in 1928 as an opulent movie theater by production house Paramount Pictures, the Brooklyn Paramount Theater hosted record-breaking musical cavalcades, jazz and rock legends including Ella Fitzgerald and Ray Charles, NCAA basketball tournaments, and the occasional roller derby bout in its various incarnations. Following 40 years of service as Long Island University’s basketball gymnasium, Live Nation Entertainment took over the operation of the space and brought in internationally awarded design firm Arcadis to restore the venue to its historic function and the intricate interior detailing to its former splendor.
