Structural Engineering
Guest curated by the Structural Engineers Association of New York (SEAoNY), the series spotlights award-winning projects and stories of feats of engineering typically hidden from view.
Series Description
New York has always been a city of engineering feats, home to historically significant projects–from the Brooklyn Bridge to the Empire State Building–that pushed the boundaries of structural possibility during their time. Over the years, structural engineers have continued this long tradition of innovation, using new materials and technologies to design and build the next generation of New York icons in collaboration with architects and contractors.
The structure–the bones that support the buildings where we live, work, and play–often is not visible in the finished construction. During this year’s OHNY Weekend, Open House New York and the Structural Engineers Association of New York (SEAoNY) have partnered to provide access to a selection of recent award-winning projects, revealing the structural stories and feats of engineering typically hidden behind the façade and interior finishes. These tours will give visitors a unique perspective on the city’s rich built environment.
