How the Lottery Works

The OHNY Weekend lottery closed at 12:00 am, Saturday, October 15. All first and second draw winners have been notified.

If you confirmed your tours by the specified deadline, you should have received a confirmation email with all of your confirmed tours on Tuesday, October 18.

In the spirit of being more open, accessible, and inclusive, the 2022 OHNY Weekend festival is 100% free to the public—no more $5 reservation fees for places that have restricted capacity.
This year we are introducing a brand-new lottery system for ticketed locations in place of the first-come, first-serve registration process from previous years. The lottery will open on October 13 at noon and stay open through midnight on October 15.
Keep in mind: many OHNY Weekend offerings are open access, meaning you can skip the lottery, embrace spontaneity, endure the occasional line, and enjoy public access to 110+ locations.

If you entered the lottery, please read these key updates:

  • All lottery winners have been notified and confirmed. If you confirmed your tours by the specified deadline, you should have received a confirmation email with all of your confirmed tours on Tuesday, October 18.

Lottery Winner FAQs

  • Canceling your confirmed lottery ticket: We understand change happens, and greatly appreciate your letting us know you’re unable to attend. We will remove your name from the RSVP list.
  • Giving your confirmed lottery ticket to someone else: Feel free to pass your ticket on to someone else, however as your name will be on the RSVP list at check in, whomever you pass it off to will need to provide your name to gain entry.
  • Switching your lottery tickets for another time or place: We are unable to accommodate any requests to switch tickets. If you are unable to attend, please follow the above instructions for canceling your confirmed ticket or passing it off to someone else.
  • Requesting additional lottery tickets: We fully recognize that demand for tickets to OHNY Weekend far exceeds capacity. Unfortunately we are unable to award any additional tickets or “plus 1” to confirmed lottery winners. So if you show up with a guest, only one person will be admitted. This is also true for our valuable Open House New York members; membership does not confer any benefits for Weekend tickets.
  • Thought you confirmed but don’t have a ticket in your final spread? If you feel there’s been an error, we truly apologize. We are doing our best to respond to each individual inquiry as soon as possible.
  • Have a child? No problem, children are admitted with an adult ticket holder.

Here’s how the lottery works:

  • The lottery closed at 12 am on Saturday, October 15. If you do not enter for tickets before 11:59 pm on October 14, you will not be eligible to win any tickets.
  • The only way to enter the lottery is by clicking the “Sign up via Lottery” button. Adding a place to “My Itinerary” does NOT enter you into the lottery. You do not need to create an account to sign up for the lottery.
  • If you signed up for a ticket just as the lottery opened at Noon on October 13, you may not have gotten a confirmation email. Rest assured, you will still be entered in the lottery. Nor will we disqualify anyone who registered twice early afternoon on October 13.
  • If the website crashes again, please just try again later. There is an extremely high volume of lottery entries at present, so skip the frustration if you can.
  • You may enter the lottery for as many places as you’d like, however only one entry is allowed per time slot for each place—and you cannot use the same email for two different people. For example, you can only enter for one lottery ticket to the 2pm Saturday tour of Brooklyn Heights Library, but you can also enter for one lottery ticket to the 3pm Saturday tour of Brooklyn Heights Library!
  • You CAN submit entries for tours that start at the same time. For example, you can enter the lottery for both the 10am Saturday tour of 230 Park Avenue and the 10am Saturday tour of David Zwirner Gallery. It’s not possible to win tickets with conflicting times—so don’t worry!
  • We cannot award more than one ticket per person (PER EMAIL) for each place—if you want to explore with friends or family, check out the 110+ Open Access places that do not require tickets. (Next year we will allow multiple parties to win tickets, but not this year unfortunately.)
  • There will be two draws of winners between Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16—and all notifications and requests for confirmations will accommodate the observance of the Jewish Sabbath.
  • All winners will be notified by email and MUST click the “Confirm” button, sent via email, to win tickets during the specified window (and don’t worry, we’ll allow adequate time for everyone to respond, you will not need to sit in front of your computer all weekend!) Check your inbox—and, depending on your filters, your Spam/Social/Promotions tabs—for emails sent from OHNY Weekend | Lottery (via Airtable).
  • If you don’t confirm your lottery ticket(s), it will get passed on to someone else. So if you enter the lottery, you’ll need to look out for OHNY emails and confirm by the specified deadline.
  • Keep it fair—do not enter the lottery with multiple email addresses and aliases. Double entries for the same session of a tour (based on duplicate email) will be disqualified.
  • If you can’t make your tour and want to give your ticket to a friend, you MUST still confirm your spot and they can go in your place.
