The Woodlawn Cemetery, a 400-acre active burial ground established in 1863, is a National Historic Landmark with the largest and finest collection of funerary art in the country. Many of New York’s most accomplished architects created impressive mausoleums for their prestigious clients. The cemetery’s unrivaled collection of monuments—including over 1,300 mausoleums– were designed by legendary American architects, landscape designers, and sculptors. The work of McKim, Mead & White, Carrère & Hastings, Beatrix Farrand, Louis Comfort Tiffany, and Daniel Chester French graces Woodlawn’s grounds.

Several significant tombs will be open to visitors for guided tours during OHNY Weekend. Visitors will see architectural details such as bronze doors, stained glass, and extraordinary mosaics, and learn how artisans and patrons created interiors that were meant to last for eternity.
