Riverbank State Park opened to the public in 1993 and quickly became one of NY State’s busiest parks. The urban park is precedent-setting and a demonstration of environmental justice and social equity. Riverbank was New York City’s first public green roof—and one of the largest still today. A first-of-its-kind recreation facility with numerous year-round recreational amenities, Riverbank has become a true community amenity.

The architect-led tour through this lush public urban waterfront space will include the fascinating history of Riverbank State Park’s inception, design, and construction – and a discussion of the critical importance of creating public open space accessible to every New Yorker.

Parking is not available. Pedestrian access via 145th Street and Riverside Drive.
