NYC Parks installed its first green roof in the spring of 2007, and it was among the first in NYC. Since then, the green roof program has grown to encompass over 30 unique growing systems covering 50,000 sq ft. The agency has further expanded its green roof to 40 other buildings and about 300,000 sq ft across the city. The green roof program at NYC Parks connects to the future, as all rooftops in the city that are undergoing major construction will need to have a green roof or solar panel, as per Local Laws 92 and 94 of 2019. Visitors will learn about different green roof systems, soil and plant type and how to design the optimal mix. **Saturday & Sunday Tours**: 45-minute tours will be offered at the top of the hour every hour. Groups are limited to 20 people, first-come, first-served.
