Maple Grove Cemetery opened in 1875, a Victorian-era rural country cemetery. The tour includes the 1880 Victorian building, which features the original staircase and bell tower designed by noted New York City architect James Edward Ware, the 1875 Maple Grove Receiving Tomb, and a walk through the cemetery. View mausoleums and monuments with unique architectural features including the 1893 Pyramid Lodge Egyptian-style gateway designed by Harry Knowles, architect of the landmarked Masonic Hall in New York City. The tour will also visit the Center at Maple Grove designed by noted architect Peter Gisolfi. A stunning modern edifice, featuring the Celebration Hall with barrel-vaulted ceiling, the Family Room contains rare art pieces. The lobby features a massive fused-glass memorial window by artist Barney Zeitz, a glacial garden, the underground columbarium, and interior waterfall features. At the end of the walking tour, there will be a 30-minute dance presentation given by Dance Entrophy in the Center. The performance is called RITE, and it will focus on a meditative ritual and a healing ceremony. It will also explore the similarity between architecture and dance.
