Freshkills Park is a 2,200 acre landfill-to-park project and a model for sustainable land reclamation. It is also the largest park being built in NYC in over 150 years! The Freshkills Park Alliance and NYC Parks will discuss the past, present, and future of Freshkills Park and highlight the park’s grasslands, wetlands, and wildlife on this tour. The tour starts at the newly opened North Park Phase 1 of the park and then proceeds to the top of North Mound, located in the DSNY site and normally closed to the public.

Plan Ahead: Be “tick aware” and “heat aware.” Wear appropriate clothing, including closed-toed shoes. Bring water and sunscreen. All participants will be asked to sign an activity waiver before entering the park. Those under 18 need to have the waiver signed by a parent or guardian and must be accompanied by an adult.
