For over 20 years, the Flatbush Caton Market has served as the bustling center of a vibrant Caribbean community, connecting residents with local vendors and products from all over the globe. A five-year renovation and expansion project is now complete and the market has returned with a new name: the Flatbush Central Caribbean Marketplace!

The market returned with 27 of the original vendors. In addition, the facility boasts a host of new experiences including a Caribbean and global cuisine food hall, 2 bars/lounges, and a studio and tasting kitchen. The Mangrove at FC hosts a series of business incubation spaces - a large commercial kitchen, a natural body care production lab, and a community design studio.

Visitors are encouraged to use the facility map and QR codes posted throughout the market to access stories from vendors and community members about the history of the market and its importance to the neighborhood.

How does the combination of financial, cultural, and community capital enrich quality of life? The "Building Capital: Value of Place" series showcases places that play a vital role fostering community connections and local culture, telling the story of how the space was designed, built, and financed, how it’s being used, and how they contribute to the financial security and well-being of residents. Building Capital is the latest installment of OHNY’s Urban Systems program and is presented in partnership with Bloomberg Connects
