The Dyckman Farmhouse, the last farmhouse in Manhattan dating back to 1784, was built on Kingsbridge Road (now Broadway). Built in the Dutch Colonial style when upper Manhattan was not yet part of New York City, the house opened as a museum in 1916. Today, it is nestled in a small garden and is an extraordinary reminder of early Manhattan and an important part of its diverse Inwood neighborhood. On Friday, explore the house on a self-guided tour and hear stories about the Dyckman family, who operated a prosperous farm with the hands of enslaved labor on unceded Lenape land. Visitors will also have the opportunity to check out the Museum’s historic Hessian Military Hut. On Saturday, join the Dyckman Farmhouse Museum for its annual Fall Festival. Let the melodies move you with live music from the Washington Heights Chamber Orchestra and José Luis. Embrace your inner artist with the arts and crafts table and a paint and sip activity lead by Art on the Avenue. The historic Hessian military hut will be open to visitors, as well as the iconic Dyckman Farmhouse – featuring exhibitions from two local Uptown artists. Snacks and freshly popped popcorn will also be available for purchase. Special Fall Festival activities will include: – Two local artist exhibitions – Concerts – Apple Cider pressing demos – Paint and Sip activity – Story time activity – Arts and Crafts table – Concessions available for purchase – and more!
