The Douglaston Club building and the grounds on which it stands have had an interesting and long-running history. Prior to the building of the house in 1819, the property around it was in the possession of such notable Queens families as the Hicks, the Van Zandts, and the Van Wycks. The Van Zandts built the house after acquiring most of the property included on the peninsula. After changing hands a few times, the house became the Douglaston Club in 1921. The Douglaston Club is a members-only organization providing cultural and recreational activities to its members. The amenities at the clubhouse include tennis courts, a pool, bowling lanes, and fine dining. The Douglaston Yacht Squadron, formed in 1927, is an integral part of the Club and organizes nautical and land-based programs for its members. The historic Douglaston Club will be open for guided tours. Stroll through the Club, or enjoy sitting on the front porch. Cookies and cider will be served.
