Hosted in Fordham University’s newly built McShane Center, this showcase features over 500 square feet of maps. **General Map of the Bronx**: A comprehensive final map of the Bronx comprising 8 sections, each approximately 40 square feet. These maps illustrate the official lines of today’s Bronx, revealing how some streets were mapped but never built, and highlighting alterations made since the map’s creation. Challenge yourself to spot these historical nuances! **1905 Topographical Survey of the East Bronx**: These historical survey sheets provide an intricate view of the East Bronx, including elevations, the early street grid, natural landmarks, and water bodies. Created by Josiah A. Briggs and Frederick Greiffenberg, these 45 maps, each around 5 square feet, will be displayed adjacently to form an expansive representation of the area. **Department of Public Parks Maps**: Admire our collection of 1870s maps showcasing the Central Bronx. These large-scale hand-drawn maps offer a glimpse into the past, showcasing how planners and public officials visualized large areas before the advent of modern technology.
