Billion Oyster Project is a nonprofit organization on a mission to restore oyster reefs to New York Harbor through public education initiatives. Why oysters? Their reefs provide habitat for many marine species, have the ability to filter water, and help shield New York City shorelines from storm damage. Billion Oyster Project’s vision is a future in which New York Harbor is the center of a rich, diverse, and abundant estuary: that the harbor can be a world-class public space, well used and well cared for.

Join Billion Oyster Project for a walking tour of their headquarters and restoration activities on Governors Island! On this tour, participants will have a chance to learn about Billion Oyster Project’s goals while taking in some NYC oyster history. Come on out and learn more about these powerful ecosystem engineers!
