The Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum, the last remaining 19th-century estate in the Bronx’s Pelham Bay Park, is a cultural and educational institution that serves the broader New York City community. The Bartow-Pell Conservancy works to preserve and maintain the historic Greek Revival mansion and carriage house, as well as the museum’s collection, its gardens, and the surrounding landscape, and to interpret the site’s history with innovative and dynamic educational and public programming for students, adults, and families. During OHNY Weekend, the Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum will offer a Children’s Walk-In Workshop Saturday, October 21 from noon-3pm. As a paean to the genius of Frank Lloyd Wright, a workshop for children by a Bartow Pell educator will simplify flowers into basic geometric shapes. Using methods Wright used in his construction of Hollyhock House, which was commissioned in 1918, children will choose among common flowers to creatively draw their leaves, stems, and petals using basic shapes they know from geometry.
