In downtown Manhattan, the National 9/11 Memorial opened on the 10th anniversary of the tragedy. In remembrance of the victims and for the unity of a nation, two reflecting pools – “Reflecting Absence” – reside as remnant voids of the fallen towers, relatively discrete within the partially completed plaza. Join lighting design firm Fisher Marantz Stone on an evening tour exploring the lighting design of this iconic monument.

The plaza is designed to light people and provide easy wayfinding to the exits. Lining the base of each pool, the custom fixtures illuminate the falling water creating a powerful reflection that oscillates between celebration and sorrow.

The tour will be led by designer Hank Forrest and Carla Ross Allen of Fisher Marantz Stone.

This event is part of OHNY @ Night with the New York City section of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IESNYC), a series that showcases the work of Lumen Award-Winning Lighting Designers.

The health and safety of our community is paramount. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination with ID and a mask is required for ALL in-person experiences. See guidelines: https://ohny.org/covid-19-update/
