For this event, visitors will tour 660 Fifth Avenue, the storied Midtown Manhattan office building currently undergoing a significant KPF-designed renovation. Designed by Carson & Lundin, the nearly 500-foot-tall modernist skyscraper first opened in November 1957. Cutting-edge at the time, the original façade is highly inefficient by today’s standards. The unique structural system of the existing building provided significant opportunity when it came to the recladding, allowing for an equally notable new skin that features some of the largest façade panels installed in the city. The glass measures over 18’ x 10’, almost the exact size of the standard available at the factory, significantly reducing glass waste and maximizing production efficiency. Visitors will learn how the structural system allows for the mega panels and experience the expanded views from the building, new double-height interconnected office floors, and terraces.

This is a construction site, so closed-toe shoes are required. Hard hats and vests will be provided. Though an elevator will be used to move from floor to floor, there will be floor surfaces in some areas that are not completely flat or finished, and so may not be accessible to all needs.
