Open Call for the 20th Annual OHNY Weekend
The 20th Annual OHNY Weekend will take place on October 21-23, 2022 and we are issuing our first ever open call to organizations and individuals willing to open doors across the city to the places that define New York’s past, present, and future.
Please join us in unlocking the city for broad public access!
Open House New York Weekend is an annual festival that opens hundreds of noteworthy or significant places across the five boroughs for three days of in-person and virtual tours, talks, and special activities. OHNY Weekend is a free celebration of “the power of place,” fostering discovery and delight for all New Yorkers and deepening the public’s understanding of how design can strengthen communities and improve quality of life.
This year, OHNY celebrates 20 years of unlocking our city with an expanded mission to promote citywide access to all New Yorkers. In the spirit of being a more open, accessible, and inclusive organization, OHNY is doing its first-ever Open Call.
The Open Call invites organizations and individuals willing to open doors across the city to the places that define New York’s past, present, and future.
Submitters are encouraged to share their ideas for partnering on the 2022 OHNY Weekend, whether by offering a tour, talk, exhibition, self-guided walk, virtual experience, or another format.
OHNY will review all submissions and, if selected, invite submitters to register as a Weekend Partner, with priority given to submissions falling into one or both of the following series:
- Building Capital: The Value of Place: Does your submission showcase a place that brings together a combination of financial, cultural, and community capital? For example, are you submitting on behalf of an organization that manages a cultural or community space? Or are you a community organizer, architect, designer, cultural institution, curator, artist, or funder who has helped to create a new or noteworthy place or experience for locals to gather, share, learn, live, work, or play? This series showcases places that play a vital role fostering community connections and local culture. It tells the story of how a space was designed, built, or financed, how it’s being used or adapted, or how it contributes to the well-being of residents and the cultural vibrancy or financial security of their communities. This series is presented in partnership with Bloomberg Connects, the free arts and culture app. Learn more about Building Capital: The Value of Place.
- Radical Knowledge: Libraries as Community Catalysts: Are you submitting on behalf of a library? This series showcases the various ways libraries serve as vibrant civic and learning centers for their communities—whether in-person or through online resources, whether inside or beyond the branch. Submissions in this category can be part of any of the city’s library systems (NYPL, BPL, QPL), a free-standing library or one within an independent organization, or even a pop-up library. Those selected to participate in OHNY Weekend will gain access to OHNY’s diverse audience—tens of thousands of engaged New Yorkers—while promoting access, discovery, and adventure alongside hundreds of other organizations committed to telling the stories of places that shape New York’s past, present, and future.
Please note that the Open Call is for organizations and individuals who have not partnered for OHNY Weekend before. Current and former OHNY Weekend partners should not complete the Open Call form.
If you’ve partnered on OHNY Weekend before, and want to partner again, please fill out this registration form by July 29.
