Gallery: OHNY Previews – Kasmin Gallery | High Line Nine
On April 24, Open House New York hosted a special members-only preview of Kasmin Gallery and High Line Nine to learn about the innovative architecture and programming of these two new art spaces in West Chelsea. Located adjacent to and directly underneath the High Line, these two new galleries were designed to preserve the area’s identity as a vibrant arts district. Led by Markus Dochantschi, architect and founding principal of studioMDA, the tour began in Kasmin Gallery – a space built for large artwork. Guests also heard about the research, construction process, and many cement mixers involved in creating its distinctive facade. Next door, Open House New York previewed High Line Nine, which introduces a new gallery format to Chelsea. The space reinvents the 19th century European arcade to create a hybrid combining aspects of a museum, gallery, art fair, and showroom. At dusk, members gathered on the High Line for a view of Kasmin Gallery’s rooftop, which features a sculpture garden with rotating exhibitions.
