Opening Night: DUMBO Archway Plaza

Join us the Friday night of OHNY Weekend for an Opening Night celebration at the Dumbo Archway Plaza—NYC’s Newest AND Oldest Plaza Space! This event will be free and open to the public—RSVP suggested, but not required.

Come together with fellow New Yorkers who love NYC as much as you do for a night of music, cocktails, and projection art on the Manhattan Bridge. Take part in the public unveiling of this reimagined plaza space, designed by AECOM, where old world charm meets a 2024 Brooklyn aesthetic.

Hear from designer Gonzalo Cruz and Dumbo Improvement District President Alexandria Sica as they share the vision and magic behind this special space. From sculptural seating to custom artist-designed umbrellas and projection art, we hope you will join us for a night of celebrating creativity and our city’s open spaces.

The celebration continues all weekend long as more than 200 places across the five boroughs unlock their doors for special access and tours. From design studios to historic homes there’s something for every New Yorker to discover this OHNY Weekend.

About the plaza

Originally opened as the first plaza in the New York City Plaza Program with a few cans of paint, flexible seating and the will power of Janette Sadik-Khan – this plaza gave birth to a movement! Today, it has been reborn as part of Dumbo’s massive historic street preservation project, with sculptural seating designed by AECOM’s Gonzalo Cruz, custom umbrellas by Dumbo-based artist Liz Collins, and projection art on the Manhattan Bridge. Old world charms meets 2024 Brooklyn aesthetic.
