Metropolitan members are invited to Chelsea for an evening of art and architecture!

The National Academy of Design promotes art and architecture in America through exhibition, education, and research. Founded in 1825–it will celebrate its 200th anniversary next year–it is the leading honorary society for visual artists and architects in the United States.

Participants will explore the National Academy’s new gallery space by Bade Stageberg Cox and the current exhibition, Sites of Impermanence, on a special tour led by the National Academy’s Executive Director, with a wine reception to follow.

About the exhibition:

Sites of Impermanence is an exhibition of art and architectural works by the recently elected class of 2023 National Academicians Alice Adams, Sanford Biggers, Willie Cole, Torkwase Dyson, Richard Gluckman, Carlos Jiménez, Mel Kendrick, and Sarah Oppenheimer. From site-specific projects to sculpture, drawing, architecture, textile, and interactive installation, the selection of works in the exhibition reflects on a bounty of ideas (critical environmental challenges, the ongoing effects of slavery, the blurred lines between human and machine), to chart pathways towards transformation and liberation.

This event is open to Metropolitan members only. Please contact [email protected] with any questions.
